A young painter and a popular singer meet very politely by chance at a resort hotel, and scandal-mongering journalists blow it up into a secret romance. The two decide to fight the press in court, and an impoverished old lawyer takes it upon himself to help. The win their case when the old lawyer finally admits the editor bribed him to lose. Criticizing irresponsible, sensationalistic journalism, Kurosawa's film is, at one level, a soap opera from which every last tear is shamelessly wrung by his?
