In All About Animals we meet every child's favourite - the giraffe, elephants, gorilla, lion, shark, rhinoceros, tiger, dolphin, polar bear, chimpanzee, kangaroo, hippopotamus and seal - to name but a few! But this is no ordinary wildlife series. Each episode is an investigative quest. The animals are under constant surveillance as we discover surprising facts about their everyday lives and the creatures that surround them - their friends and their foes. Stories unfold as we learn all about their world.
1. BERT THE BEAVER
On a river in Wyoming, Bert and his wife are building their new home which is called a 'lodge'. The beaver's fantastic swimming ability, sharp claws, long chisel-like teeth and strong carrying paws are just the tools needed for an incredible feat of construction. They build a huge dam, create watery roads to their favourite food, tree bark, and erect a watertight lodge, complete with fridge and insulation for the winter.
2. GUS THE GRIZZLY BEAR
Even on all fours an adult North American grizzly bear is over a metre in height and over two metres long. They can also swim, climb and can run at nearly 50 kmph. When he is three months old Gus finally emerges from his underground den. His mum will show him how to catch salmon, prise open shellfish and scoff thousands of berries. Eat and sleep, sleep and eat - it's not a bad life for a grizzly bear!
