Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine are superb as Charlotte Bronte's star-crossed lovers in this handsome screen version of the classic novel set in early Victorian England. An orphan in a society that values status and wealth, Jane Eyre (Fontaine) endures a difficult childhood. As a young girl, she lives with a severe aunt (Agnes Moorehead) who shows her no warmth.
