內容:
A successful collaboration between two distinguished soloists always adds up to more than the sum of its parts. Znaider and Bronfman bring to these sonatas their formidable virtuosity, their chamber music experience, and their shared love for Brahms. Their rapport and interplay are close, supportive, and unanimous (though they seem to have agreed to disagree on a few details of articulation), and the balance is remarkably good. They play with great freedom and expressiveness; occasional lapses into sentimentality are underlined by Znaider's all-too-frequent, lusty slides. The first two sonatas are unusually lyrical, perhaps under the influence of Znaider's strikingly beautiful, silken tone. Indeed, he sometimes seems less interested in phrasing than in sustaining a smooth, singing legato. For example, in the Second Sonata, the first movement lacks definition; the fast parts of the slow movement are rather leisurely and lack character. In the First Sonata, the tempo changes and push-and-pull rubatos are a bit unsettling, and there are a few surprising note changes. The third Sonata's corner movements are very dramatic; the opening is tense and ominous, but, like most violinists, Znaider, despite his masterful bow-control, fails to observe Brahms' problematic dynamics. In the slow movement, however, he follows the printed slurs, yet sustains a full, rich tone. The C-minor Scherzo from the "F-A-E" Sonata is exciting if perhaps too unremittingly intense.
